Think Southern Lost City on a larger scale. The worst part by far was in the rugged range country around Redbank Mine, close to the border. Since it was our last night on this section of the Savannah Way, we decided to camp at Hann Lagoon between the border and Hells Gate Roadhouse. This is officially National Highway One. Anyhow, the scenery is mostly Top End savannah country with the low scrub fringing the road.

Surprisingly we had it to ourselves. Old schoolfriends and flatmates of the couple who are busy making the roadhouse between Burketown and Borroloola a place to stop and enjoy the surrounds drove and flew from Brisbane, Julia Creek, Toowoomba and Roma to mix with locals for a day of camaraderie.
